The way I like to write can be summed up with a story.

It was early in 2015, my senior year, and I was sitting in my advisor’s office at Ohio University. When he asked me what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I carefully considered the question. “Well,” I began nervously, “Honestly, I’d really like to be the person who writes the descriptions on the back of shampoo bottles.” Instead of rolling his eyes like I fully expected, he chuckled and said, “Now, there’s a goal.”

And it’s true — my goal as a writer is to connect brands to their customers in interesting, surprising ways. When you’re taking a shower, there’s not much else to do other than read the description on the back of shampoo bottles, so those writers might as well make those descriptions as impactful as possible. They’re a small but mighty chance to connect with people in quite literally the most intimate setting — when they’re fully naked, washing their hair.

I loved the idea of that career opportunity and wanted to run with it. And although I haven’t exactly written any shampoo bottle descriptions yet, I’ve done a ton of other cool sh*t that nervous 21-year-old Briagenn would be ecstatic over. I’ve developed web copy for industry-leading brands, I’ve experienced the phenomena of going viral with my well-honed words, and I’ve seen my work blasted on a billboard overlooking the Las Vegas Boulevard.

And like I said, I’m just getting started.
